I used to have all kinds of negative thoughts about my body.
The times when I felt the most insecure is when girls would say negative comment about their own bodies. Then other girls would jump into this body shaming party. I would try to tell them they are beautiful and everything they said wasn’t true. Even though deep down, I was having the SAME thoughts. I wouldn’t join in on the conversations because if I did, I would get the “you are so skinny” comment.
I HATED being skinny. The comments about having “chicken legs”, a “flat butt”, or the best, “how are you SO skinny when you eat SO much” comments. That last one doesn’t seem like it should be mean, but since I was so insecure it hurt A LOT. And the weird part was also that I was really insecure about specifically my stomach. I was skinny, but I didn’t have a flat stomach and I could NEVER let anyone know about that.
“Skinny” is NOT something any of you girls should be striving for. Trying to become skinny won’t fix those negative thoughts you have had about your body. BUT striving to just take care of your physical health and your mental health WILL. Stop with ONLY the physical results. FOCUS ON YOU. Focus on having a healthier relationship with food. A healthier relationship with your body. Focus on having positive thoughts about yourself. A healthy and strong body and mind is what you should be striving for. And the physical results just might come in the process.
YOU are your biggest critic. STOP shaming yourself and especially stop having a body shaming party with people. And if someone does comments on your body, become that woman with such a strong and loving mindset about themselves that they can let that comment GO.
Every single body in this world is beautiful, no matter what shape or size. YOU are beautiful just the way you are. BUT in order to know that about yourself, you have to BELIEVE it.
I don’t feel ashamed of my body anymore. I don’t feel “skinny” anymore. I feel STRONG in my body and in my mind. I owe it all to the ladies in my health and fitness groups. Without their love and support, I wouldn’t still be on this journey.💛
Happy 18th Birthday to my baby girl Amanda! You are such a beautiful, smart, funny, caring girl who lives life to the fullest every day. Your passion for animals and the environment and just wanting to make a difference in the world by doing your part is so inspiring to me and makes me want to be better too. You truly do make each day count by enjoying the little things. You are generous, kind and giving, always looking to put a smile on peoples faces. You are hardworking and determined and never complain (even when I made you start paying for your cell phone 😂). I am so proud of who you’ve become! I love you way up to the sky and around the world!! Happy Birthday Amanda!! 🎂🎉🎈💜 #happy18th#babygirl#daughter#love#yourebeautiful#youreanadultnow#18thbirthday#birthdaygirl#amandajane
Bombshellnit with selfies in the dressing room is one of my new secret tricks. ⠀
It wasn’t too long ago that if I saw this outfit on the rack, I NEVER would have tried it on. ⠀
Not because I didn’t like it. But because I would have told myself that it wouldn’t look good on me. Or that I didn’t have a place to wear it. Or that I’d never have the guts to wear it. But what a bunch of silly excuses, just to TRY IT ON. ⠀
And the cool thing about trying something on that’s completely different than you ever did before, is that it’s not just trying on a new look. It’s like trying on a new attitude. It’s seeing all the possibilities in your life that it represents.⠀
⠀⠀✨⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
The other cool thing about selfies in the dressing room is that its a really good way to really see if you like the way an outfit looks on you. If you’re looking for a holiday dress, for example, you can snap a pic after each that you try on, and then swipe through the pics to see which you like best. It’s easier to really compare and see if it brings out your best features or not. ⠀
⠀⠀✨⠀ ⠀ ⠀
Next time you go shopping, try it! And try something you wouldn’t normally wear - maybe something you thought you couldn’t before because of your ‘body type’ or that it’s too revealing - or whatever other reason - when you know you really want to.
And it’s okay if you hate the look, or hate it on you. But maybe you don’t. And maybe you can actually SEE yourself wearing it somewhere. Even if you’re just #bombshelling it at home with someone special - and especially if that someone special is YOU. ⠀
