Today I stumbled upon a banned (in 48 counties) 1978 documentary called "Faces of Death." Obviously inclined towards that which my more mature governing counterpart has deemed "too graphic" for a dainty, dependent citizen like myself, I pirated it, and watched it. Many thought veins erupted to the surface for me, so I decided to tie in a little bit of perspective for sharing.
Okay, so in understanding that the feelings evoked from seeing gruesome killings and deaths of humans and animals can be quite visceral, there's still plenty of room for the question of whether someone else should have the authority to deem what is "too much" for grown up me to handle. True, It makes sense to have ratings and warnings for media because it leaves the power with the viewer - But at what point did we decide it was okay to give away our power to make decisions for ourselves?
To me it feels like when an officer of the law forces you from your reality to explain how you are being a danger to yourself and others and then extorts a half-week's wage in exchange for his high-level wisdom, about the dangers of going 6 mph over the limit. Who is in charge of your reality?
Who is in charge of your reality? There is only one correct answer, and it makes the difference between being a victim and owning your experience.
The other big item that arose for me during this assault-on-my-senses film was the realization that I've seen very little death in my life. I tend to think that I am more comfortable with death and dying than most yet I found it strange how censored death and dying is in our Western bubble. Even animals that die are quickly hidden from the public eye. And killing/death has become an adopted mainstream media tool for moderating dopamine levels in dollar slaves and voters. Our rights to see the American bombs destroying innocent populaces in Syria and Yemen (to name a couple) have been completely revoked in the name of what, innocence? If you believe this you are far from being in charge of your own reality.
Also, rating alert, this film will forcefully open your mind.
